what is gold

BUY GOLD  , gold (Au), chemical element, a dense lustrous yellow precious metal of Group 11 (Ib), Period 6, of the periodic table of the elements. Gold has several qualities that have made it exceptionally valuable throughout history. It is attractive in colour and brightness, durable to the point of virtual indestructibility, highly malleable, and usually found in nature in a comparatively pure form. The history of gold is unequaled by that of any other metal because of its perceived value from earliest times. GOLD FOR SALE

Image explanation
BUY GOLD , a traditional alchemical symbol for the element is used. It is also used as a sun symbol, and much of the mythology around gold relates to the sun. Early alchemists were obsessed by gold and pursued their desire to transmute base metals (usually lead) into gold. The image in the background is based on a symbolic representation of an alchemist’s ‘laboratory’. ORDER GOLD ,
Appearance
A soft metal with a characteristic yellow colour. It is chemically unreactive, although it will dissolve in aqua regia (a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acids).

Uses OF GOLD

BUY GOLD , Most mined gold is stored as bullion. It is also, however, used extensively in jewellery, either in its pure form or as an alloy. The term ‘carat’ indicates the amount of gold present in an alloy. 24-carat is pure gold, but it is very soft. 18- and 9-carat gold alloys are commonly used because they are more durable.
The metal is also used for coinage, and has been used as standard for monetary systems in some countries.
Gold can be beaten into very thin sheets (gold leaf) to be used in art, for decoration and as architectural ornament. Electroplating can be used to cover another metal with a very thin layer of gold. This is used in gears for watches, artificial limb joints, cheap jewellery and electrical connectors. It is ideal for protecting electrical copper components because it conducts electricity well and does not corrode (which would break the contact). Thin gold wires are used inside computer chips to produce circuits. GOLD FOR SALE
Dentists sometimes use gold alloys in fillings, and a gold compound is used to treat some cases of arthritis.
Gold nanoparticles are increasingly being used as industrial catalysts. Vinyl acetate, which is used to make PVA (for glue, paint and resin), is made using a gold catalyst.
Biological role
Gold has no known biological role, and is non-toxic.
Natural abundance of gold
Gold is one of the few elements to occur in a natural state. It is found in veins and alluvial deposits. About 1500 tonnes of gold are mined each year. About two-thirds of this comes from South Africa and most of the rest from Russia.
Seawater contains about 4 grams of gold in 1,000,000 tonnes of water. Overall this is a huge amount of gold stored in the oceans but, because the concentration is so low, attempts to reclaim this gold have always failed.

Properties, occurrences, and uses

BUY GOLD , Gold is one of the densest of all metals. It is a good conductor of heat and electricity. It is also soft and the most malleable and ductile of the elements; an ounce (31.1 grams; gold is weighed in troy ounces) can be beaten out to 187 square feet (about 17 square metres) in extremely thin sheets called gold leaf.

Because gold is visually pleasing and workable and does not tarnish or corrode, it was one of the first metals to attract human attention. Examples of elaborate gold workmanship, many in nearly perfect condition, survive from ancient Egyptian, Minoan, Assyrian, and Etruscan artisans, and gold continues to be a highly favoured material out of which to craft jewelry and other decorative objects. (see metalwork; goldwork.)

Because of its unique qualities, gold has been the one material that is universally accepted in exchange for goods and services. In the form of coins or bullion, gold has occasionally played a major role as a high-denomination currency, although silver was generally the standard medium of payments in the world’s trading systems. Gold began to serve as backing for paper-currency systems when they became widespread in the 19th century, and from the 1870s until World War I the gold standard was the basis for the world’s currencies. Although gold’s official role in the international monetary system had come to an end by the 1970s, the metal remains a highly regarded reserve asset, and approximately 45 percent of all the world’s gold is held by governments and central banks for this purpose. Gold is still accepted by all nations as a medium of international payment. (See also money.)

Compounds of gold

BUY GOLD , The characteristic oxidation states of gold are +1 (aurous compounds) and +3 (auric compounds). The state +1 is generally quite unstable, and most of the chemistry of gold involves the state +3. Gold is more easily displaced from solution by reduction than any other metal. Even platinum will reduce Au3+ ions to metallic gold.

Among the relatively few gold compounds of practical importance are gold(I) chloride, AuCl; gold(III) chloride, AuCl3; and chlorauric acid, HAuCl4. In the first compound, gold is in the +1 oxidation state, and in the latter two, the +3 state. All three compounds are involved in the electrolytic refining of gold. Potassium cyanoaurate, K[Au(CN)2], is the basis for most gold-plating baths (the solution employed when gold is plated). Several organic compounds of gold have industrial applications. For example, gold mercaptides, which are obtained from sulfurized terpenes, are dissolved in certain organic solutions and used for decorating china and glass articles. ORDER GOLD ,

History of gold

The history of gold extends back at least 6,000 years, the earliest identifiable, realistically dated finds having been made in Egypt and Mesopotamia c. 4000 bc. The earliest major find was located on the Bulgarian shores of the Black Sea near the present city of Varna. By 3000 bc gold rings were used as a method of payment. Until the time of Christ, Egypt remained the centre of gold production. Gold was, however, also found in India, Ireland, Gaul, and the Iberian Peninsula. With the exception of coinage, virtually all uses of the metal were decorative—e.g., for weapons, goblets, jewelry, and statuary.

Ores of gold

BUY GOLD , The major ores of gold contain gold in its native form and are both exogenetic (formed at the Earth’s surface) and endogenetic (formed within the Earth). The best-known of the exogenetic ores is alluvial gold. Alluvial gold refers to gold found in riverbeds, streambeds, and floodplains. It is invariably elemental gold and usually made up of very fine particles. Alluvial gold deposits are formed through the weathering actions of wind, rain, and temperature change on rocks containing gold. GOLD FOR SALE

For thousands of years the word gold has connoted something of beauty or value. These images are derived from two properties of gold, its colour and its chemical stability. The colour of gold is due to the electronic structure of the gold atom, which absorbs electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths less than 5600 angstroms but reflects wavelengths greater than 5600 angstroms—the wavelength of yellow light. Gold’s chemical stability is based on the relative instability of the compounds that it forms with oxygen and water—

Purity of Gold and Flakes

Gold dust and flakes are very similar in purity to gold nuggets. However, there is one major difference. Since a gold nugget is a single unit, it was formed in only one place. On the other hand, gold dust and flakes are small particles. For this reason, and because collecting them requires considerable effort, gold dust and flake samples were often collected from multiple locations. Even so, most gold dust and flake refinery results are in the eighteen-karat (18K) range. In our experience, very little gold flake and dust material is higher than 18K. Since 2009, we here at Portland Gold Buyers, LLC, have purchased gold dust and flakes dozens of times, if not over a hundred. Of all those times, we have only purchased material refined to twenty-karat (20K) twice, which is 83% pure. See refinery result sample. ORDER GOLD ,

In my experience, raw gold is very rarely less than 75% pure or more than 90% pure after all non-metals have been removed. With this material, some of the mass is non-metallic. At the time of refining, this mass floats above the metal mass. For this reason, the weight after melting is slightly lower than the weight before melting. It is this mass, the mass after melting, that is examined.

Refineries only accept fairly clean batches of raw gold. Apart from a very minimal amount of non-metal, most refineries do not accept the material because it very quickly qualifies as ore. The transfer of ore is closer to the mining process than to the refining process.

Below is an example of a refinery result. As you can see, this very clean sample contained almost 4% non-metals. This is quite normal.

Gold Bullion Shop is very proud to offer a wide selection of 96% to 98% pure natural gold dust. Most of the gold available here was recently unearthed by hardworking miners and prospectors. You can also buy gold dust online.

BUY GOLD , In fact, miners come to our store every week with the gold they’ve found in various parts of Alaska, northern Canada, and many other countries. We purchase some of this gold and store it in our vault. The smaller flake gold, which we call dust, is the most commonly found and is available at the lowest price, often only slightly above the market price of gold! This is then packaged in glass vials and a “gold poke” bag. Natural gold contains other metals, including silver and platinum. Most of our gold is between 96% and 98% pure. Our nuggets are weighed in pennyweights (DWT), with 1 pennyweight equaling 1.55 grams and 20 pennyweights equaling 1 troy ounce. We negotiate with miners to get the best possible price, but due to their rarity, natural nuggets sell for more than the market price of gold. The larger the nugget, the more it costs per ounce. BUY ORIGINAL GOLD

ORDER GOLD , Fine placer gold for sale by the gram or ounce. This natural gold is variously known as “gold flake,” “fine gold dust,” or “flour gold.”

This fine flour gold shown next to a penny is a 1-gram sample. One troy ounce contains 31.1 grams.

Our fine placer gold is all natural and measures between #18 mesh and #30 mesh. (For example, a window screen is considered approximately 20 mesh.)

This is the smallest gold we regularly have in stock. Natural gold, which is smaller, is usually refined and processed into bars or gold bullion.

FYI: A 30-mesh sieve has openings of 0.0232 inches, and gold that stays on top of that sieve but falls through an 18-mesh sieve is what we call “gold flakes” or fine gold flour.

The vial and coin are for illustrative purposes only and are not included. Order vials here.
